A flood insurance policy can cover buildings and/or the contents in a building due to damage from flooding caused by heavy or prolonged rain, melting snow, coastal storm surges, and other flooding events. Flood insurance policies through Southern Ambit Insurance are available for all properties, whether residential or commercial.

Flood damage is not covered under homeowner’s policies, therefore, investing in a separate flood insurance policy will help homeowners and commercial interests protect their homes and businesses. Homeowners insurance provides some coverage for water damage, but flooding or major flooding events are excluded.

If I don’t live near water, do I still need flood insurance?

Whether your home or business is right on the water or miles away, flooding is still a risk. Most moderate to low risk areas are still eligible to purchase flood insurance and often get a reduced rate.

How long does it take for flood insurance to go into effect?

A standard National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) insurance policy for homes and businesses located in federal emergency managed areas has a standard 30-day effective date waiting period. However, some exceptions may apply, such as loan closing windows. Some of our private flood insurance providers offer a shorter 7 – 14 day waiting period.

What if a flood causes my sewer system to overflow and back up into my house?

Most sewer overflow and back up coverage is an additional coverage option on your homeowners insurance policy and is not covered on a standard flood insurance policy.

What are SAI’s flood insurance options?

Southern Ambit Insurance offers flood insurance policies through the National Flood Insurance Program as well as through other private flood insurance companies, depending on your particular needs.

What isn’t covered by a typical flood insurance policy, and why?

A flood insurance policy is a single risk policy that only covers water damage from a specific flood event. Therefore, water damage that is unrelated to a major flooding event typically is not covered, such a bathtub overflow or busted water heater. Those examples would have coverage under a proper homeowners insurance package.
